MISS BEHAVIN’

Part 1

After meeting and falling for Sidebar Girl (SG) in March 2010, then trying to keep the connection alive for 2 years with constant flirtatious messaging and countless ambitious but ultimately doomed plans to reunite — truly believing that she was “the one” — in March 2012, I met someone else who lit me up in a way I hadn’t felt in a long time.

I truly felt that I couldn't fully commit to New Girl (NG) until I let go of SG completely, so in June of that same year I stopped talking to her altogether; essentially giving up on my once unshakable hope that things would work out between us in the end.

The relationship New Girl and the 9 months it consumed were tumultuous to say the least. So much happened that it could be a spin-off story in itself but for now let’s just say that NG's infidelity was the straw that broke the camels back and by April 2013, it was over.

I was badly wounded by that experience. It derailed me in more ways than one; and to make matters worse I’d thrown away any chance of things ever working out with the only person I ever felt I was “meant” to be with — SG…or so I thought.

A day or two after I broke things off with NG, SG messaged me out of nowhere. This is the actual conversation, redacted to preserve the identity of all involved except me.

So that little path-altering conversation was the inspiration for Verse 2 of Miss Behavin’. Pretty obvious when you listen & read the lyrics once you know this

Yeah, well I know that it's been a while

So take it easy, call me cheesy but you still make me smile

I thought you were gone for good

I really blew it and I knew it wasn't likely but I hoped that you would

Find the courage that I never could

To do the thing my tummy told me I should

Oh oh oh

Well it’s a fact I want you back; another crack

At all your misbehavin’

Thanks for comin’ and savin’

Our story outta the grave

Thanks for comin' and savin'

Another 2 years pass between that fateful moment and the thing that Miss Behavin’s Bridge + First Verse refer to. If you want to read about what happened in that span of time, click on Part 2
