Recording Update

Hey You,

Sorry I’ve been a bit distant again the past few weeks. The plan was to put out that last “where have you been?” blog post and then take you through the recording process with me in real time. I attempted to do this the first couple days, but felt like my attention and concentration was being divided. I started to get the sense that trying to post while recording would compromise my performance, so I decided to pull back and just focus on getting the best possible thing into the microphone. After all, that was the whole reason I was there.

I took heaps of great footage though, and I’ll most likely share that with you at a later date. But yeah, despite my best intentions it turns out my multitasking skills still need quite a bit of work. But I’ve found a few seconds to breathe and thought I’d offer a bit of an update on the whole recording thing.

So I originally booked 2 consecutive 3-day weekends to record all the parts and produce the tracks. I had my doubts that this would be enough time to finish everything but Tim, my truly amazing producer, assured me that we should have p-lenty of time. And, I’m sure, for most artists, this would’ve been true. But it would seem that my inability to make decisions on the spot, combined with my unhelpful fixation on details that probably don’t matter in the grand scheme of things has slowed us down a considerable amount.

When we didn’t start recording vocals until halfway through day 5 out of 6 (the second weekend), it became pretty clear to me that we’d need more time. So I got in touch with the studio manager and booked in 3 more days. The first 2 would be to finish recording vocals, the 3rd would be a few days later to do a final fine tune and tweak. The vocal days were Thursday and Friday last week, once again, didn’t finish. Not gonna lie, I was pretty gutted I didn’t finish - AGAIN. But I’ve always been pretty bad with deadlines so I really wasn’t all that surprised.

I want to emphasises that all of this is entirely my fault. Tim has demonstrated the patience of an absolute saint throughout this process. If I was him, I would have lost it at me by now. Possibly even resorted to physical violence. Instead, Tim's understanding, calm and professional approach has helped to put me at ease when I’ve been on edge and, ultimately led us towards a result I think we can be proud of. For this I’ll be eternally grateful.

So where are we at now? This whole thing has been one huge roller coaster of emotion, a very steep learning curve and, overall, an incredible experience. We’re not finished just yet but we’re getting SUPER close. I’m heading back into the studio this Saturday to finish vocals, then we’ll do ONE LAST DAY Thursday next week to fine tune and tweak. And then... THEN we’ll be one step closer to sharing it all with you. Can’t wait!
